Van Puijenbroek Textiel reorganises production
Today, Van Puijenbroek Textiel in Goirle, the Netherlands announced details of its production restructuring.
The company, which owns the HaVeP and Bucofa brands, intends to stop
producing its own fabrics. Van Puijenbroek Textiel will start
cooperating with renowned European manufacturers on the production of
fabrics. The above entails the loss of approximately 100 jobs at the
Goirle production location. The company will continue to manufacture
clothing.
The intention of ending own fabric manufacture in the Netherlands as of
1 October 2009 is connected to the strategic decision to lower
operating costs, and increase the flexibility and competitiveness of
the HaVeP and Bucofa brands. Furthermore, this development provides the
opportunity for further investment in Van Puijenbroek Textiel and the
associated brands' Research & Development, Service and the Sales
& Marketing organisations. With its brands HaVeP and Bucofa, Van
Puijenbroek Textiel has a strong position on the market and the company
considers it essential for the brands to continue to grow. We are
convinced that this choice is crucial to reinforce our market position
and future growth potential.
Van Puijenbroek Textiel's board of directors lament the fact that the
termination of fabric production in Goirle will make involuntary
redundancies inevitable. This will result in the loss of some 100 jobs.
The company would like to emphasise its responsibility by implementing
the production closure using a good social plan. This plan will be
discussed with the unions over the coming weeks. The emphasis will be
on supporting staff in finding new jobs by means of career guidance,
training and other options. Van Puijenbroek Textiel's board of
directors has informed the Works Council and the unions, and has
submitted the decision to the Works Council for advice.
